About Moldova

Moldova,   officially the  Republic of Moldova  is a  landlocked  country  in  Eastern Europe.

It shares borders with Ukraine on its northern, southern and eastern part and on its western part the Prut River separated Moldova from Romania.

Moldova has a population of 3.5 million people, Moldovan (dialect of Romanian) as an official language and Russian, Ukrainian and Gagauz are also spoken. The national currency is the Moldovan Leu (MDL) and the local time is CET+1. The capital is Chisinau

 Moldovian Higher Education System

Since 2000, degrees of Bachelor’s and Master’s studies started to be implemented to adapt the Moldovan system to international standards.

Undergraduate degree:

Undergraduate studies last for four to six years, depending on the field of study, external courses require one additional year of study. The student can earn two types of diplomas. The diplma de studii superioare universitare and the dipolms de Licenta are the two highest degrees earned in Moldova. Only the student earning the diploms de Licenta can continue their education to earn a Masters or Doctorate degree.

Master studies:

Master degree studies aims at the building up of qualification acquired before. The studies lasts from 1 to 2 years after the Diplomă de Licenţă. The admission to this programme is done at the institution level. It requires the presentation and defence of a research thesis (Teza de Master)

Doctoral studies:

.The third level of studies in Moldova comes in two stages, the Doctor Habilitat and Doctor of Science.Admission to these studies requires an examination by only the students who have earned a Masters or Licence Degree.Students considering a higher education in Moldova must abide by the admission criteria set up through the National Council for Certification and Accreditation.

In order for the student to earn a Doctor of Science, this educational system takes three to four years of research and education. The highest science degree in all fields of study is the Doctor Habilitat. These students have earned their Doctor of Science first, in order for admission to the program for Doctor Habilitat

 

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees vary between $ 1000 to $ 5000 depending on the course selected and the nature of the university (Public or Private).

Living Costs

Life in Moldova is affordable. Depending on the size and location of housing, monthly rent can cost between 186 USD and 434 USD. You’ll find great places for 200 USD.

When it comes to basic utilities such as electricity, water, heating, cooling, and garbage, prices can go up to 123 USD per month. This is usually lower during the summer.

Regarding groceries, you should budget 150 USD approx. Public transportation would cost 10 USD per month.
